Glasvegas - Euphoric/Heartbreak

Euphoric/Heartbreak is the sound of a band growing up and taking flight. Glasvegas' auspicious 2008 debut, championed by Alan McGee, the man who found Oasis, marked the Glaswegians out as a special talent.
They were deservedly bracketed alongside citymates Primal Scream and Franz Ferdinand as having stand-out talent. The singles from that debut Go Square Go, Daddy's Gone and Cheating Heart, were exceptional.
Euphoric/Heartbreak couldn't be more different. It's been given a wash of electronica by producer Flood (Smashing Pumpkins, Sigur Ros) and has greater emotional resonance that its predecessor.
Reverb-soaked guitars, insistent drums and a performance from singer James Allen's mother are all added into a heady mix.
If Euphoric/Heartbreak has one stand-out characteristic it is the anthemic quality of its choruses. This is uplifting indie at its best. On their present tour, Glasvegas filled Wolverhampton's Slade Rooms. Expect their next show to be in a much larger venue.
Available Monday.
