Number of new homes planned for sites of former Wolverhampton school and training centre cut by a third
The number of new homes planned for a former primary school and training centre in Wolverhampton has been cut by more than a third, a council has confirmed.
The City of Wolverhampton Council has awarded a near £3m contract to fill mineshafts and clear up the former Loxdale Primary School in Bilston and Stowheath Day Training Centre in East Park, Wolverhampton for new affordable housing but has said the 150 homes planned has now been reduced.

The contract, which has now been made public by the council, said a total of 89 homes were now proposed across the two sites with 50 built at Loxdale and 39 built at the Stowheath site.
City of Wolverhampton Council confirmed the number of homes planned to be built on the site had been reduced but the final figure had yet to be finalised and would be subject to planning approval.
A spokesperson for the council said: “Following detailed site investigations showing the full extent of the ground conditions on both these brownfield sites, we have been advised by the proposed developer they will need to reduce the number of homes to meet planning requirements and make delivery of the schemes viable.
“The most important thing is to bring these derelict brownfield sites back into use for much-needed housing in our city rather than leave them disused. The delivery of the schemes is still subject to planning approval.”
The nine-month contract states the mineshaft treatment and remediation work is pencilled to start in September.
City of Wolverhampton Council announced in November last year that it had been awarded £1.4m in government funding to help prepare the two sites in Bilston for new houses.
The announcement said the money would pave the way for work begin to this year.
The two sites would provide seven-and-a-half acres of land for up to 150 new homes.
