Grand Circle – which is Wolverhampton Grand Theatre's very own adult community choir – has been selected to perform before the Dolly Parton musical 9 to 5 next week.

The choir only formed earlier this year but already has 40 members, led by vocal director Elaine Buckland.

The musical – labelled as a hilarious new musical comedy – runs from May 13 to 18 at the Grand Theatre.

It is based on the film of the same name which centres on three offices workers who turn the tables on their sexist boss.

Before the start of the show, which opens next Monday, Grand Circle will perform four songs to the theatre audience, namely Dolly Parton hits 9 to 5 and Jolene and other class songs Oh

What a Night and Build me up Buttercup.

Mrs Buckland said rehearsals were going really well for their performance.

"Everyone is really looking forward to it and it'll be so nice to perform in front of a big crowd of people," she said.

"The producers of the musical approached us, which was nice, and we can't wait to be on stage."

The choir meet once a week at Newhampton Arts Centre and their ages range from 17 to 76.

Mrs Buckland added: "It's gone from strength to strength since we started a few months ago.

And this link-up with the Grand Theatre is one of our first major events.

"Our members aren't just there for the music – it's the interaction and social involvement as well.

"And having opportunities like the one the Grand have given us, for which we're so grateful."
