West Midlands musical theatre fans are being treated to amazing performances of the Olivier award-winning musical Fiddler on the Roof.

The show is playing The Alexandra, Birmingham, for a festive run until Saturday January 3. Ahead of the show's arrival earlier in December, Roman Lytwyniw, alternate Fiddler in the production, paid a visit to the second city and took to the roof of the 124-year-old theatre to take in the sights.

Following sold-out seasons at Regent's Park Open Air Theatre and London's Barbican Theatre, the UK tour of this musical masterpiece is the first in over 12 years, featuring one of the finest scores ever written including: ‘If I Were A Rich Man’, ‘Tradition’, ‘Matchmaker’ and ‘Sunrise, Sunset’.

It’s 1905 in the tiny village of Anatevka where Tevye, a Jewish milkman, lives his life by their proud traditions. For his five daughters, that means a visit from the matchmaker. As each daughter challenges his beliefs, against the backdrop of a changing world, can Tevye hold on to his roots, or must he bend to the will of his children and learn to embrace the unfamiliar?

A spokesperson for The Alexandra theatre said: “We are thrilled to share with you a video of Roman Lytwyniw who plays the alternate Fiddler in Fiddler on the Roof, performing on the roof of our 124 year old theatre. We might be biased, but we think our city looks spectacular in the sunshine.”
