The Codsall Beer Festival has been a fixture of the social scene in the village since it was first held in 2015 and is set to return bigger and better than ever to the village hall this Friday and Saturday (October 3 and 4).

More than 1,000 people are expected over the two days and will be able to enjoy 31 different cask ales from 31 different breweries, 13 ciders and a range of new lagers and ciders, as well as hear live music and enjoy hot food in the setting of the hall or in the outside marquee.

The final prep work was being done on Thursday, including laying the floor, setting up the marquee and installing the beer stations, ahead of the official start time of 6pm on Friday.

Organiser Andy Evans, who organises the festival with the help of his wife Kelly, said it meant a lot to him to be able to put on the festival again.

He said: "It's been well-supported for 10 years and that's thanks to the people of Codsall and the surrounding areas as they come every year and show that support, which is why we are able to put it on each year.

"That's great and long may it continue. I've always told people that as long as the beer festival is supported and it raises money to pay for itself, from the beer and everything else, then I can donate some money.

"A lot of people come to the village to see it and it's just a big community event which is full of friends and families."

Mr Evans said that the drinks were all from different breweries and said that there were probably around 18 beers that had never been at the festival before, meaning people had more choice about what they could try.

He said the festival meant a lot to him as it had been his idea in 2015 to start it up and said that while it was stressful at times, it was very rewarding as well.

He said: "I wanted to do a festival which was for the village and make it an annual event, having music here and inviting local artists, and the first one was to help raise funds for a boy who needed an operation on his back.

"When I did the first one, it was only going to be the one as I just wanted to prove to myself that I could do it, because a lot of my friends said I wouldn't be able to, and I got the support of local councillors and the community and it was such a good event.

"After that, I started doing it every year, being able to set it up and take it down quicker. While the week leading up to it and the event itself is stressful and I get a lot of anxiety, once it's going I relax and just enjoy the festival for what it is."
