Tommy Shelby is coming home: The world premiere of the Peaky Blinder movie is coming to Birmingham - here’s when

The Peaky Blinders film, The Immortal Man, will hold its world premiere in Birmingham with most of the movie being shot around the West Midlands

It’s official - Tommy Shelby is coming home. The Peaky Blinders have announced that they are holding the world premiere of the first ever film from the hit gangster drama series in Birmingham.

The announcement has been made on the official Peaky Blinders instagram page for the iconic period drama which is being shown in selected cinemas from March 6 and streaming on Netflix on March 20.

No exact date has been released for the Birmingham world premiere - or location - at present. 

Much of the film was set in the West Midlands, with its creator, Stephen Knight, opening his film Digbeth Loc. studios in Birmingham.

Scenes from the movie were filmed by the canal at Bumble Hole Nature Reserve in the Netherton area of Dudley.

It has also been claimed that a ‘location spotter’ is looking for sites around Wolverhampton for the next series.

There is much excitement about the new feature length format of the gangster series which will see more exciting action from crime boss Thomas Shelby played by Cillian Murphy.

The official description for the film states: "Birmingham, 1940. Amidst the chaos of WWII, Tommy Shelby is driven back from a self-imposed exile to face his most destructive reckoning yet.

"With the future of the family and the country at stake, Tommy must face his own demons, and choose whether to confront his legacy, or burn it to the ground. By order of the Peaky Blinders..."

Alongside Murphy, the film cast includes Rebecca Ferguson (A House of Dynamite), Academy Award nominee Tim Roth (Reservoir Dogs), and Sophie Rundle (Gentleman Jack).

The production will also feature Oscar nominee Barry Keoghan (Saltburn) and recent Golden Globe winner Stephen Graham (Adolescence).

Peaky Blinders creator Steven Knight wrote the screenplay for The Immortal Man, with Tom Harper directing. Harper previously helmed several episodes of the series and the 2015 miniseries War and Peace.

Creator Stephen Knight also released a statement saying:  "I am delighted to announce that this March, the Peaky Blinders feature film 'The Immortal Man' will be screened for the first time ever, in a world wide premiere, at a venue to be announced, in the City of Birmingham.

"The Shelbys are coming home and you are invited to join us. By order of the Peaky Blinders."

After the film's release, the Peaky Blinders universe will expand further with two brand new series arriving on both the BBC and Netflix.
