A video shows the moment Coldplay’s Chris Martin surprised a Staffordshire couple by performing one of the band’s hits for the first dance.
A newlywed couple were left stunned after Coldplay star Chris Martin turned up at their wedding to accompany them for their first dance.
The frontman made a surprise appearance at Blithfield Lakeside Barns in Rugeley, Staffordshire, last night (Saturday December 13). And the unaware bride and groom only realised it was the hit singer-songwriter serenading them halfway through their dance.
Heartwarming footage shows Chris, who turned up disguised in a beanie, performing All My Love on the piano while surprised friends and family watched on.
The mum of the groom had contacted the band to see if he could send a congratulatory video - but they replied to say "we can do one better". It turned out Chris, 48, was free that night - so he turned up to the wedding reception instead.
A video shows the singer performing by the dance floor and hugging the couple, from Stafford, at the end of the band's 2024 hit.
Venue owner Alex Brown said the family and staff were gobsmacked when their special guest was confirmed - and originally thought it was a scam.
Alex said “It was absolutely fantastic for the couple.
"The groom's mother emailed the band asking for a video congratulating them on their wedding. But they got in touch and said they can do one better than that and decided to actually turn up. I thought it was a scam when I first heard about it the other week.
“But it was only at 10am yesterday that it set in when I saw them setting up the piano that I realised it was real, as they have a special piano for Coldplay.
“In the video you can see them all slowly realising it’s Chris Martin, people were mouthing it to each other. They had no idea, none at all.”
