Wolverhampton-born X Factor star Jay Scott and his Kingsland Road bandmates were thrown off the TV talent show last night despite judge Gary Barlow complaining that the British public had 'got it wrong'. Jay's band Kingsland Road had ended up in the final two with Tamera Foster, one of the favourites to win the singing competition.

But despite their early exit, the group tweeted afterwards that they still had high hopes for the future.

The group had shone in earlier rounds of the talent show, making swift progress through the auditions to judges' houses and into the final 12.

They gave a polished performance of the Jackson 5 hit Blame it on the Boogie on Saturday's show and looked odds-on for staying another week. But the public didn't dance to their tune as they failed to poll enough votes to squeeze through.

Jay, aged 19, from the Eastfield area of the city, had hoped to follow in the footsteps of fellow Wulfrunian Liam Payne, who rocketed to stardom in 2011 when his band One Direction finished third.

But instead he and his fellow band mates were left to battle it out against the 16-year-old singer who was shaking after her rendition of Whitney Houston's I Have Nothing which was enough to ensure she would be saved by the judges.
