It was a soggy start for revellers waking up at V Festival today – but the weather was set for a turnaround with temperatures exp-ected to soar to 23C across Staffordshire.

Forecasters have predicted blazing sunshine for Weston Park throughout the weekend – a far cry to the rain and wind which swept over the site overnight.

But even the miserable weather failed to dampen the spirits of thousands of festival-goers who threw on their rain ponchos and wellies and braved the wet for the opening night.

Megan Anderson, aged 16, was at the site's funfair with pals Amelia Chambers and Laura Rowen, from Manchester.

"The first night was so much fun and the music hasn't even started yet," she said. "David Guetta is the one I am here to see. The rain doesn't bother us at all, it's all just a laugh."

Tom Jones, Madness and Wolverhampton's Beverley Knight are among those on today's line-up, with The Killers and Snow Patrol as the headline acts.
