As a heartthrob in one of Britain's most popular boybands, Simon Webbe is used to performing in front of crowds of tens of thousands of people. So visitors were stunned to see the Blue star take to the stage at West Bromwich Library.

The singer was visiting the town to watch his teenage daughter Alanah Jones perform in a concert, but when the 15-year-old from Birmingham asked her famous father if he would perform, he jumped at the chance to share the bill at Rave in the Book Bank with his little girl.

The 33-year-old, who represented the UK at Eurovision last year with Blue, performed two of his solo singles, No Worries and After All This Time, while his daughter joined the floor to dance with him as he rapped to Simon Says.

Alanah was performing with her dance crew Domino at the event, which was part of Get Loud in Libraries week.

Simon said: "I lived in Birmingham for most of my childhood. I wanted to be here because first of all my daughter is performing.

"I would like to claim that she takes after me with her performing, but I think it is something that she has worked on herself.

"As a dad I'm just proud to see it.

"This is all about her, she asked me to perform, it is such a privilege for me to share the stage for my little girl."

Alanah added:?"He is supportive, we are proud of each other," added Alanah who hopes to go into a career of teaching dance.

Other acts on the bill on Saturday included Restless Natives, Craig Seeney, Juggernaut and K Chambers.

The gig was organised by Sandwell Central Library, West Bromwich Youth Council and Sandwell Youth Services music project Sound It Out.

Event organiser Aimee Dudley, aged 21, said the show had been a great success and that everyone was delighted that Simon had chosen to take part.

"What we are trying to show is that libraries aren't just for being quiet in, we want to bring people in that wouldn't normally come to libraries."
