Concert review by David Briggs

After cancelling her Christmas gig due to losing her voice, Kate Rusby finally made it to Wolverhampton Civic Hall last night.

Rusby is blessed with one of the greatest ever English folk voices, which is always a delight to listen to, and last night she did not disappoint.

She could probably sing the phone book and make it sound like the most heart-breaking ballad, but of course, as she celebrates her 20th year in folk music, she has a huge reportoire of traditional and self-penned songs on which to draw.

Last night's gig was a mix of new material off her most recent album Make The Light and plenty of old favourites.

In between songs, Rusby chatted away to the audience revealing an infectious sense of humour that was charmingly at odds with her beautifully melancholic songs.

Rusby is expecting her second child soon and so she won't be playing live again for a while. Thankfully fans have last night's performance to hang on to until she returns.
