Concert review - James Morrison at Birmingham O2 Academy
For those who didn't know, James Morrison is no longer that boy with a guitar and a nice line in ballads. He's a man now and, judging by his demeanour on stage last night, a fun performer who can't help but have a good time.

For those who didn't know, James Morrison is no longer that boy with a guitar and a nice line in ballads. He's a man now and, judging by his demeanour on stage last night, a fun performer who can't help but have a good time.
James looked really at home on this next stop on his Awakening tour, slipping out of his leather jacket and showing us his new style of music. It's more uptempo, more varied and, James says, the sort of musical creation he was unknowingly nurturing through most of his early 20s.
You can detect folk, gospel, blues and good old plain pop. And who would have anticipated an impression of Michael Jackson and a number inspired by him?
But if James is taking us with him on a musical journey, one thing that's staying put is his distinctive voice.
The crowd may have loved his new stuff but how they whooped for old favourites You Give Me Something and Wonderful World, which delivered his sheer vocal beauty just brilliantly and left the fans almost delirious with delight.
