Hundreds of rock' n' roll fans were transported back to their youth as 1980s superstar Shakin' Stevens performed a succession of hits at Wolverhampton Civic Hall.

At 63, Shaky rolled back the years as he stormed through a mixture of classic songs, covers and new material during a two-hour show backed by a 10-piece rock band.

The Cardiff-born singer dusted off favourites such as Green Door and This Ole House as well as Now Listen, the title track from his latest album and a surprising cover of Welsh rockers Feeder's 2005 hit Tumble and Fall.

The stage was adorned with huge banners on either side showing the star in his younger days and Shaky, born Michael Barratt, proved he can still belt out the hits.

One of the oldest fans at the Civic last night was Noreen Collingswood, a retired 84-year old wholesaler from Yoxall, Staffordshire.

She said: "It's been lovely. I used to have all his records but I have never seen him live before. It has been very enjoyable."
