Katie McGlynn, who is best known for playing Sinead Tinker in Coronation Street, paid a surprise visit to The Town Wall Tavern pub in Coventry on Tuesday (3 March). The pub is tucked away behind the Belgrade theatre which hosts a variety of shows from War of the Worlds to The Strictly Experience.

The pub wrote on Facebook on Wednesday (4 March): "As the little theatre pub tucked just behind the Belgrade, we’re lucky to see the occasional famous face pop in. Yesterday we had the pleasure of welcoming the lovely Katie McGlynn to The Town Wall while she was visiting Coventry. Always a joy to host such wonderful guests!"

Katie McGlynn is also known for her roles as Jodie "Scout" Allen in Waterloo Road and Becky Quentin in Hollyoaks. In 2021, she was a contestant on the nineteenth series of Strictly Come Dancing.

The visit from the star was very welcomed by the pub which is set to be closing down. One user commented on the post asking whether the pub is set to be closing and it seems that the pub's future is still in doubt.

The Town Wall Tavern responded: "Still here and fighting away. We announced we were closing but hasn’t confirmed an actual closing date yet."

The city centre pub previously announced it will close less than a year after reopening. The Town Wall Tavern on Bond Street was taken over by new licensee Ian Brownsword and reopened at the end of February 2025.

In its initial closing down announcement the pub said: "We regret to share that The Town Wall Tavern will be closing in the coming weeks. With immediate effect, our kitchen will be closing due to issues beyond our control.

"Sadly, this means the new pie menu we have spent weeks planning — and a significant amount investing in — will no longer be going ahead. As we approach the end of our first year at The Town Wall Tavern, we have made the incredibly difficult decision to close the pub.

"This decision has not been taken lightly. There are many reasons behind it, some personal, but largely relating to ongoing issues with the pub itself including new issues with the kitchen/gas supply and our current agreement with the brewery.

"Despite our best efforts over the past year and the hard work and dedication, we no longer wish to continue operating under the current circumstances — even though this is a place we truly adore."

It added: "We do not yet have a final closing date, but when the time comes, there will absolutely be a final hurrah, and we will give plenty of notice so we can all raise a glass together one last time." Local residents have posted on Facebook that they hope the pub stays open.

One user said: "Great pub, cracking people as well, hope they stay open". Another added: "Great pub! Shame it’s closing".
