West Midlands brothers have told of their amazement as the Fish & Chip shop they set up after leaving their jobs in banking and construction has been named one of the top 50 takeaways in the UK by a major magazine.
The Big Chippy on Jews Lane in Gornal has been named on the UK’s 50 Best Fish & Chip Takeaways 2026 list by FRY Magazine, the leading trade publication for the fish and chip shop sector.
It follows two rounds of mystery dining visits in which judges meticulously inspected aspects including food quality, premises cleanliness, staff expertise, value for money, ease of ordering, and social media presence.
The Big Chippy scored an impressive 97 per cent with the mystery diner particularly praising the staff as very professional, excellent range of food available, and freshly cooked to order food.
Co-owner Suky Sahota said the award had been a real honour, as well as a huge surprise as he said he and his brother Mani had been running the shop for the love of producing quality food.
