It was a cold and soggy winter evening when I ventured into Dough & Fire in Moseley village in Birmingham.

And the moment I walked through the door I was charmed by the cosy pizzeria abuzz with excitement as it prepared to open up for the first time.

Bright, welcoming decor with turquoise walls and sandy coloured finishings with plants and twinkly lights were a cheery sight in contrast to the drab November weather outside.

Dough & Fire is on Woodbridge Road where you’ll find a selection of great food and drink places in the popular neighbourhood, which attracts people from across the West Midlands with its lively bars and restaurants.

But it’s not just the snug interiors that make this restaurant stand out. The pizzas really are gorgeous - packed full of the freshest ingredients and created with skill and passion.

There were several to choose from and, after some deliberation, I chose the Quattro Fromaggi Pizza on my visit. It was oozing with mozzarella, dolcelatte, smoked scarmoza, grana padano sitting smoothly atop san marzano tomato paste which smothered the deliciously soft bread base .

I can still taste the delicious power of the dolcelatte winning through all those fab ingredients. The wholesome zing from the tomato added the perfect finish to each bite.

And all this for £12.50 for a whole pizza - I was so impressed. This wasn’t the cheapest pizza option either. The Marinara Pizza is priced at £9.90. The three most expensive options are the Diavola Pizza, Capris Deluxe and Vegan Ortelana at £13.90.

There are a whole selection of desserts to enjoy too.

I was determined to be good - but as it was such a special occasion I agreed to try the Tiramisu on my visit. I was delighted with the creamy spongy dolci. It had just the right hit of coffee and cocoa powder for flavour and sweetness - served with an authentic touch in a glass, it was a perfect portion. It cost £6.50, in case you’re wondering.

And when you find out about the team behind the new venue - the high quality dishes and service all makes sense.

The kitchen is led by head chef Ahmed Noureldin who joins from Kobe Sizzlers. He’s got 27 years of culinary experience behind him - and it all began in Italy. He honed his craft at Birmingham restaurants including Frano Manca and BOX before joining Dough & Fire - watch out for his pizza spinning skills.

Neel Chatterjee is the director. He’s got eight years’ experience of running hotels and specialises in guest experience and brand development. He drew inspiration for the restaurant directly from Neapolitan pizza culture in Naples and has big plans for the new Dough & Fire brand.

Armaan Rafique is Founder and BDM. He began his career as a chef and has previously held managerial positions and Rudy’s and Fazena restaurants in Birmingham.

Shrina Das is a co-founder. Her inspiration has come from her father’s dedication to business.

There are plenty of drinks to enjoy at Dough and Fire too - cocktails, mocktails, wine, beer, cider coffee and tea.

If you’re around Moseley village way - it’s definitely worth a visit!

Dough & Fire is open from 5pm to 10.30pm this week for the soft launch and from December 1 onwards you can visit from noon to 10.30pm daily.
