New Greggs opens in Brierley Hill creating nine jobs
There have been new jobs created after a brand new Greggs shop was opened in Brierley Hill.
Nine new jobs were created at the Moor Centre in the town after the shop was opened on November 8, with a wide range of discounted Greggs favourites, including the Sausage Roll, Steak Bake, vegan alternatives and sweet treats
In addition to this, following strict quality and safety checks, Greggs has expanded the range of products available through its Outlets to include items such as pizza and cream cakes.
The opening marks the latest step in Greggs’ long-standing commitment to tackling food waste and building stronger communities through its nationwide Outlet initiative.
First established in 1974, the scheme redistributes surplus food products, typically priced at around 50 per cent less than in a standard Greggs shop, helping customers stretch household budgets while reducing waste.
Greggs have said that reducing food waste remains a key priority and, in 2024 alone, Outlet customers purchased 2.8 million sweet products, 2.7 million sandwiches and 2.4 million savoury items, representing a 17 per cent increase on 2023, with 45 per cent of surplus stock redistributed.
In line with the UN’s Sustainable Development Goal to halve global food waste by 2030, Greggs said its expanding network of Outlet shops continues to make a meaningful contribution to reducing economic, social and environmental pressures in the UK and beyond.
Alongside its Outlets, Greggs also works with food-saving app Too Good To Go and a number of local charity partners to ensure surplus food reaches those who need it most.
A spokesman for the new Brierley Hill store said: “Every purchase made here not only prevents good food from going to waste but also helps fund our community grant programme, supporting local organisations to deliver vital services.”
Roisin Currie, Chief Executive at Greggs said: “Our new Outlet shop in Brierley Hill reaffirms the commitments set out in the Greggs Pledge to reduce waste and support communities.
"By selling surplus products at great value and reinvesting a portion of the profits through The Greggs Foundation, we can help families and local charities across the country.”
