Sadness as a landmark West Midlands pub announces its closure its doors due to 'rising costs from brewery'
A popular pub in Sedgley famous for its incredible Christmas light displays is closing its doors and says it’s due to the ‘rising costs from brewery’
A legendary West Midlands pub announced it will close its doors for the final time on Monday (November 3) leaving regulars heartbroken - however it is believed the pub actually closed for the final time on Sunday (November 2).
The Summerhouse in Sedgley confirmed the news in a heartfelt statement from its landlords, Amy and Rory, who described the decision as “gutting” and “unbelievably sad”.
They wrote: “It is with great sadness that we have to announce that we are closing the doors on The Summerhouse on Monday.
“We are gutted that we have to do this, but with rising costs from the brewery it’s now become untenable.”
The couple, who have run the pub for several years, thanked customers for their loyalty and friendship.
“We never thought this would be how it ended for us. We have loved being at the pub and we are so grateful to each and every customer that has supported us over the years,” they said.
“To the customers who have turned into friends, we will miss you all so much. Take care. Amy and Rory x.”
Locals have described The Summerhouse as a “legendary” spot on Gospel End Road known for its Christmas lights display, warm atmosphere, community spirit, and welcoming hosts.
Many have shared memories online, expressing sadness over the closure and frustration about the financial pressures facing traditional pubs.
The closure of The Summerhouse is the latest blow to the region’s pub scene, as rising costs and supply challenges continue to put pressure on independent landlords across the UK.
For regulars, Monday’s last orders will mark the end of an era — and a final toast to a place that felt like home.
