Penn Tandoori was named Restaurant of the Year for Wolverhampton at the National Curry Awards on October 20.

The awards were created in order to promote the businesses within the Asian catering industry and to recognise the talented and hard-working staff at both the forefront and in the background to keep the industry productive, with restaurants from all across the UK going up for the awards.

Members of the Penn Tandoori team were at the awards ceremony at the House of Lords, alongside Wolverhampton West MP Warinder Juss, and manager Rahan Hussain said everyone at the restaurant felt honoured to have won the award.

He said: "We are very privileged and also proud and honoured to have received this award, especially at the House of Lords and from our local MP, so it's very good and I am so proud of my hard working staff.

"The judges told us they had picked us as the winners because we are very popular in our area and so I think that's an endorsement of what we do as we have been established in the area for a long time.

"This award is not about one person, it's about the team, from the chefs at the back to the people at the front and the main part is about the food and the consistency we bring to the community every time."

The restaurant on Penn Road has become an established destination since it first opened in 1990 and the award is the latest in a list of awards, including winning Euro Asia Curry Awards Best Indian Takeaway Restaurant in the Midlands in 2024 and the Express & Star Indian Restaurant of the Year in 2017.

Mr Hussain said the restaurant was planning to hold a celebration event in January next year to thank the community, with an offer of 50 per cent off as part of the thanks to customers.

He also offered his own thanks to the customers and supporters, saying: "Thank you so much for supporting us and believing in us.

"I think this award is one which also goes to the local community and our regulars, who keep coming to us and keep supporting us, so we really appreciate your support."
