'It's heartbreaking, but sometimes you have to let go' - Popular Sutton Coldfield restaurant closes doors for last time as owner calls time
A popular Italian pizzeria and bar has closed its doors after three years following a decision by the owner to close up shop.
Your Flamingo was opened on Boldmere Road in Sutton Coldfield in 2022 by Antonello 'Tony' Atzori and was famed for its traditional Neopolitan pizza slices and other Italian dishes.
In its time open, the pizzeria was rated highly on Google Reviews and was well known for a friendly welcome and flamingo colouring around the restaurant.
However, the owner Mr Atzori posted on Instagram to let customers know that he had made the hard decision to close the pizzeria in August and offered thanks to everyone who had supported him on his journey.
He said: "After over three years trading on the high street of Boldmere, I have taken the hard decision to close down Your Flamingo.
"I’m sorry if this will upset you. I will never be able to thank you all enough for your support throughout these years and hope you have enjoyed and appreciated what a real pizza should look and taste like.
"We became the highest-rated Italian hospitality business in Sutton Coldfield according to independent google reviews, and also one of the highest in the whole of Birmingham, something I will always be proud of.
"It’s been an amazing experience where I have learnt a lot, met great people, delivered high service standards and provided funds for the charities I support, Acorns Hospice and Birmingham Children's Hospital.
"Your Flamingo may not have been the best name for a pizza brand, the poetry behind was hard to be understood, but for those that knew, it made sense.
"Now, it’s time to move on and I feel this is the right decision to take, and trust me it was a hard one.
"I will miss you all, the laughs, the limoncello, the flamingo colouring (all of which I kept in folders from day one), everything will be missed.
"It’s heartbreaking but sometimes you have to let go. If you have any good memories you would like to share with me, please do."
The closure of Your Flamingo is the third independent restaurant to close in Sutton Coldfield in the last few months, with burger restaurant Patty Freaks and Greek eatery Eleon also closing their doors.
