We visited a community focussed and vibrant pub in Ashmore Park with a dedicated and passionate landlady
It's a pub which has become a pillar of the community, acting as a central hub, a charity base and a welcoming place for a drink all in one.
There are plenty of instances of pubs which have been seen as troublesome or have had a chequered past and, as a result, have a reputation of being unfriendly or treacherous to go into.
Through a mixture of how the local area is seen, the type of clientele it may have had in the past and just through the way people talk about it, it can be difficult for a pub to turn around and become a more hospitable and friendlier place for people to go to.
That had been the issue for the Ashmore Inn, a pub set deep in the heart of the Ashmore Park area of Wolverhampton, an area which has experienced a significant level of deprivation and high levels of unemployment.

The pub itself has been part of the community since the 1950s, but had been on the verge of closure and demolition in 2014 until a petition was started to save the public house from closure and redevelopment into a retail store.
Due to the strength of feeling in the community, the petition was successful, and The Ashmore Inn was listed as an Asset of Community Value.
