Susy Wall has released One Day in December – a song written in partnership with The Mary Stevens Hospice in Stourbridge – today.

She worked with the hospice’s spiritual care lead Ruth Radley to create a track that can offer support to those that find Christmas a difficult time of year.

“A friend of mine was working with the hospice and happened to be meeting with Ruth when a phone call came in to say that the musician they’d got coming in that evening may not be able to attend.

“My lovely friend mentioned me and suggested I might be able to help out as I only live around the corner.

“We connected and I offered to come over if they needed me although, on this occasion, they didn’t.

“The next day, Ruth from the hospice got back in touch and asked if we could meet to chat about how I could support the hospice and we scheduled a date.

“During our meeting, Ruth explained how hard it had been to find an appropriate song to accompany a video she was putting together to help support families and friends of the hospice who find Christmas a difficult time.

“She wondered if I could write a song that would fit the brief – and that’s how One Day in December was born,” explains Susy.

“It’s been amazing to be involved with such an incredible charity and to write something that’s a little different to the Christmas songs I’ve written in the past.

“I was so humbled when musical friends and colleagues offered their time for nothing to contribute to the song.

“There’s some beautiful cello provided by the wonderful Pete Harvey and it’s been brilliantly mastered by the fabulous Mark Freegard.

“All the proceeds from the sales of the song on Bandcamp will go to the hospice so we’re really keen to extend the reach of the track as far and wide as possible,” says Susy.
