'The audience have permission to drop off!' Folk musician to perform 'horizontal' concert in Brierley Hill bed shop
A bed shop in Brierley Hill will be hosting a unique musical event this week as comfort and charisma combine in sensational style.
Dreamland Bedding Centre in Brierley Hill will be the home of Dreamland: A Horizontal Concert, a free gig so good the audience will need a lie down once it is finished.
Singer-songwriter Dan Whitehouse will perform his one-off, fully-booked set inside the shop this Friday night (October 17), and concert-goers can enjoy the Black Country folk musician's stylings from the comfort of beds across the store.

"I wrote a song called Dreamland and an album with the same name, and Frank [Chamberlain, organiser] came across the album and had the wonderful idea that I could perform the album here," Dan said. "The audience have permission to drop off, and my music has been described as meditative so perhaps this is the perfect setting.
"We'll be telling stories. A lot of my songs are inspired by the lives and characters of Brierley Hill.
"For example the Brierley Hill giant, George Lovatt, a man that was nearly 50 stone and over seven foot tall, his grave is up at St Michael's Church and he was a bit of a misunderstood character because despite his huge frame he had the voice of a child.

"He was seen as somewhat of an exotic character and people would poke fun, laugh and stare at him, but my song sets the record straight about him and I'll be playing that amongst other things."
Event organiser Frank Chamberlain added: "Dan has got loads of experience doing songs in Brierley Hill with the community here, and this is part of a big community project about bringing the high street back to life.
"It's about doing things you wouldn't usually do on the high street, because when this shop closes on a night time, why leave it dead and empty? Turn it into a music venue!"
