And although he joked that he had "finally made it" after landing a gig in the town, the funny man whose parents live in Wem, Shropshire, generally did appear pleased to be performing so close to home. He even mentioned he had popped in to see his mother on the way to the show.

His mother was in fact one of the main focuses of his attention during his performance, and he affectionately ranted about how she had repeatedly told him "It's not normal, love".

With the use of flip charts, soundscapes and a man dressed as a mini bonsai tree 44-year-old Davies ranted about being middle aged, the problem of his ever expanding belly, and how children just seem to get away with it.

He told anecdotes about his childhood, trips to Glastonbury and a rather bizarre taxi ride. I particularly enjoyed his cooking tips about how to make pies with pie.

What was refreshing about Davies' performance is that he did not name drop, or mention his appearances on TV, in fact he only mentioned the series he is most famous for - The Inbetweeners - once.

The audience were delighted with Davies' very accessible comedy and regularly roared with laughter. Everyone enjoyed the audience participation which was fun rather than embarrassing or cringeworthy, and they seemed to appreciate the mix of toilet humour, anecdotes and witty one liners. The hilarious musical end to the evening had everyone both laughing and singing in their seats.

It was a real photo finish for Davies as he agreed to have his picture taken with fans and sign autographs following the show.
