The Asylum Art Gallery, based in Chapel Ash, Wolverhampton, opened in 2014.

It offers a free space for artists to exhibit their work and has held 45 free exhibitions, as well as being behind two arts fairs in Wolverhampton.

The gallery has also been central to the development of the city's West Side Artists Quarte, a concept to provide a supportive framework for existing venues, artists, studios, promoters and institutions within the area to be a part of a wider collaborative network. The gallery recently teamed up with Banks's Brewery and was behind its graffiti marketing campaign across Wolverhampton.

The Banksy-inspired artwork can be seen on building, canals and walkways.

The gallery has also been behind the artwork on part of the old eye hospital and the refurbishment of the Newhampton Arts Centre Hall. Hannah Taylor, who set up the crowd funding page, said: "The funding would help us to pay our rent for the next six months whilst we apply for larger funding streams and continue to provide all of our services for free to the local community.

"All of the team are volunteers and it has been kept going for two years privately from the owner of the gallery who now cannot afford to put in anymore money.

"We did receive funding last year but since Brexit and cuts to the arts , funding streams have become extremely thin and hard to obtain."
