The magnificent Cathedral display will be shown every 30 minutes on the building from Monday until December 23.

Ticket holders can then take a journey through the cathedral to see the nativity and walk through a display of Christmas trees.

There will be 10,000 angels suspended from the ceiling in the south transept.

Peter Walker is the cathedral's artist-in-residence and he has led the project alongside David Harper, who has composed music for the show.

Peter said: "We've been working on a five-year programme that aims to bring more visual arts to the city.

"The Cathedral Illuminated event is part of a larger projection project within the city.

"All shows will follow a nativity theme and we're really excited to unveil it."

He worked with school children in designing the angels, which have a message of peace inside, which are on display.

The Dean of Lichfield, The Very Reverend Adrian Dorber, said: "We encourage as many people as possible to see the display."

The display will run between 6.30pm and 8pm.

Entry into the cathedral is by a free ticket with donations recommended.

Tickets are on offer at The Shop, 9 Cathedral Close.

Non-ticket holders can view the outside display subject to demand.
