The show was last held in 2000 and was stopped due to a lack of local support but it now boasts hundreds of entries.

The group behind the show is spearheaded by parish councillor Philip Davis who believes it's a great opportunity for people from Perton to showcase their talent.

Mr Davis, who has been a parish councillor for 18 months, said: "It's a great chance to show off the talent of people from Perton – in the arts and gardening mostly.

"I always remember my father-in-law always kept a very impressive garden and he was eventually convinced to enter the show – he didn't think he'd have a chance, but he ended up wiping the floor there.

"It goes to show you've got to be in it to win it.

"As we were planning it we found it's also Perton's 40th birthday, so it ties in very nicely as a celebration of that.

"Perton has a rich history – it was an old airfield during World War II, there will be information about that on the day, too."

The jam-packed show takes place this Saturday at the Civic Centre in Perton with staging taking place between 8am and 11am.

The day gets under way with exhibits being judged between midday and 2pm when the show will be opened by South Staffordshire MP Gavin Williamson.

There will be 10 new trophies and these will be presented at 4pm, followed by an auction of prize-winning vegetables and baking.

There are 84 classes for those attending to get involved with, in crafts, cookery, art, writing, photography and film, flower arranging and horticulture together with 29 categories for juniors aged four to 16.

There will also be a novelty dog show to be held on the grassed area next to Perton Library.

The Church at Perton is organising a Walk of Thanks followed by cream teas at 2.30pm and there is also a History & Heritage Open Day in the Library.
