Now in its third year, the Compton Colour Blast 5k run aimed to raise funds for the hospice which provides care and support for families living with incurable illnesses.

An estimated 1,500 participants took part in the race at the weekend, helping to raise more than £20,000 for the hospice.

Grace Lee, PR and marketing officer for Compton Hospice, said: "We are thrilled that so many people have joined us for our third Compton Colour Blast 5k. These types of events are extremely popular across the country, and the Compton Colour Blast 5k is the only event of this kind to take place in Wolverhampton."

Miss Lee added: "With more than 1,500 people hitting the track on Sunday we're confident that this could be the best Colour Blast yet! What's more, everyone who took part has raised money to help us fund quality care for patients who have been diagnosed with an incurable illness, and their families."

The run followed the recent news that the hospice is playing host to thousands of glass and wrought iron sunflowers in a special appeal.
