Stafford Festival Shakespeare star back after illness

Oliver Wilson, who plays the title role in the play, became ill on the morning of June 24 and was admitted to Stafford Hospital as a precautionary measure.

As a result, the performance scheduled for that evening had to be cancelled.

However, after an overnight stay, doctors were satisfied that Oliver, who had made complaints of chest and heart problems, had made a complete recovery and was fit enough to return to performing on the stage at Stafford Castle once again on the Saturday.

Stafford Festival Shakespeare producer and artistic programme manager at Stafford Gatehouse Theatre, Derrick Gask, said: "We're all very relieved and overjoyed to see Oliver back to full health.

"It was obviously disappointing to have to cancel the show on Friday, especially considering the fantastic response we received from the audience and critics following opening night, and I would like to extend my thanks and appreciation to all ticket holders who were very understanding of the extenuating circumstances out of our control. However, the health of our cast and crew must take precedence in these situations.

"Now that Oliver is back on his feet and ready to go we can continue with this fantastic production."

Any ticket holders for June 24 are advised to contact the box office at Stafford Gatehouse Theatre to either transfer their tickets for an alternative performance or to arrange a refund.

Performances of Othello take place at 8pm every day (except Sundays) with additional 2pm matinees on Saturday 2 and Saturday 9 July.
