The popular celebrity chef, who completed the event last year, has ruptured his Achilles tendon and ruled himself out of the event.

However he took to Facebook to tell fans that he would still be attending the event to cheer on the competitors.

His injury meant that he also missed the popular Soccer Aid event that took place this past weekend.

He said on Facebook: "Sadly, following the devastating news that I have ruptured my Achilles, today, on the advice of my doctors I have undergone emergency surgery to fix the tear and can no longer participate in the forthcoming events.

"For the #GTR100 athletes, although I won't be standing side by side with you through the swim, the bike ride or the run, I will absolutely be there, cheering you on in Staffordshire!"

As well as Facebook, he also took to social media site Instagram to share a snap of himself crocked in a hospital bed.
