The City of Lichfield Concert Band will play a two-hour concert including songs by Glen Miller, tunes from James Bond films and other favourite classics.

The band was launched 100 years ago and after a long break caused by the Second World War, the band was restarted in 1985 by a group of music enthusiasts and regularly gives performances in the wider West Midlands area, as well as Lichfield.

Among its notable conductors over the years was Sgt George Venables, a member of the Old Contemptibles, after he returned to his native Staffordshire at the end of the First World War.

Last November the band performed at The National Concert Band Festival in Nottingham where they received a platinum award and an invitation to play at the Royal Northern College Of Music.

Seven years ago the musicians performed a special concert to mark the re-opening of the town hall.

The band will be playing at the Victoria Road venue on Saturday.

Doors open at 6.30pm, for a 7pm start. Tickets, at £5 a head, can be bought by calling 0845 111 2900.
