Jerome K. Jerome, who was born at Belsize House on Bradford Street wrote the celebrated literary classic Three Men in a Boat in 1889.
Now after years of lobbying by the Jerome K. Jerome Society a 7ft statue featuring a bronze bust of the author is to be unveiled at Walsall Arboretum this summer.
Tony Gray, chairman of the society, said: "This is long overdue. I have been saying for years that Jerome K. Jerome is a great tourist opportunity for the town because he was born in Walsall and we have got him like Stratford has Shakespeare.
The statue is set to cost £15,000.
