Aspiring West Midlands artist ready for first show
An aspiring artist is looking to make her way in the creative world with her first official exhibition next month.

Emma Callaghan, aged 22, from Tividale, has long dreamed of becoming an established figure within the art industry. She will now begin to prepare for her first official Contemporary Painting Exhibition at The Brick Lane Gallery in Shoreditch, London, from February 16 to 29.
Emma, who studied at Falmouth University, graduated in 2015 with a 2:1 BA Hons Degree in Fine Art. It has always been a passion of hers which she has taken very seriously from a young age.
Her work includes a multi-disciplinary approach to subjects of memory, time, environmental and historical events. She has previously had pieces of work sold to the merchandising director of Alexander McQueen. With the exhibition coming up, Emma, who works for West Bromwich Building Society, hopes to raise her profile as an artist but also make more people aware of the mental health issues she attempts to convey in her work, such as dementia, Alzheimer's and depression.

She said: "I'm very excited for the exhibition, it's something I've been working towards for a very long time, so to have my work displayed in a gallery, especially in the iconic area of Brick Lane, is fantastic.
"Hopefully people will be open-minded to my work. My gran has suffered with Alzheimer's and dementia for many years now. It's been something we as a family have found very hard to cope with. But as an artist, I have an opportunity to voice and raise awareness."
