Stars in waiting: Jonny Squid
Jenny Ormsby meets the region's best unsigned acts and musical stars of tomorrow

Unsigned musician Jonny Squid has just released his brand new album titled Tickety Boo. Jonny, who hails from Ludlow, in Shropshire, describes his album as being "psychedelic, 21st century, English music hall, rock 'n' roll''.
His music fills the speakers with colourful beats and riffs that underpin a happy, put-a-smile-on-your face sound.
Jonny describes it as "a celebration of the minutiae and the characters in our culture".
He says: "I do it completely for the love of creating colourful music".
That rings true. His music is as colourful as a rainbow and his passion and love for a good tune seeps into every beat.
Tickety Boo contains songs that are best described as real life situations. They're set against a retro, Music Hall backdrop and feature cheeky chappies, rag'n'bone men, kitchen sink dramas and even time travel.
Jonny adds: "I get inspired by lots of different things. I love English music hall culture: tales of love, life and colourful characters.
"I think I got my own passion for music from great Music Hall artists like George Formby, Ian Dury, the songs of Lional Bart (the song writer/composer of the musical Oliver!) and world class English musicians such as Syd Barrett-early Pink Floyd."
Jonny has been receiving airplay regularly across the globe and at home.
"The response from listeners from all around the world has been really positive. Lots of people have taken the time to tell me how much they like my music. They say it brings a smile to their faces.''
In particular Jonny revealed that he has received ''a significant amount of feedback from people who have heard my songs in the US''.
With Tickety Boo, Jonny has experimented and allowed his album to be streamed for free on the internet site Soundcloud.
Tickety Boo can be purchased through specialist record shops or online via CD Baby or iTunes.
It can also be streamed for free on his website and Soundcloud at http://soundcloud.com/jonny-squid-tickety-boo
