Double bill of festivals for rock and indie fans

Two mini festivals are being hosted this weekend. Andy Richardson reports.

Festival fans can look forward to gigs featuring the best rock and indie acts at two venues in the region.

The Slam Dunk Festival is planned for Wolverhampton Civic on Monday.

It will feature All time Low, Four Year Strong, Pierce The Veil, Deaf Havana plus many many more.

Venue spokesman Jonn Penney said: "Christmas has come early for fans of pop punk, ska and Emo across the country."

Pierce The Veil frontman Vic Fuentes said: "I love the whole festival experience and head heard so many cool things about Slam Dunk."

Dan O'Connor of Four Year Strong added: "Slam Dunk was one of the craziest shows we've ever done, so I'm super stoked to come back and try to replicate that insanity."

Slam Dunk Festival will run across three dates with shows planned at Leeds Universtiy tomorrow; The Forum, in Hatfield, on Sunday and Wolverhampton on Monday.

Bands who will feature across different events on seven separate stages include All Time Low, Four Year Strong, Sleeping With Sirens, The Skints, Pierce The Veil, The Early November, We Are The Ocean, The Wonder Years, Memphis May Fire, Streetlight Manifesto, Andrew McMahon, Senses Fail, Woe Is Me, Polar Bear Club, Man Overboard, The Summer Set, Mallory Knox, MC Lars, Fireworks, The Story So Far, Handguns and Hands Like Houses.

Meanwhile, The Public, in West Bromwich, will welcome bands during a weekender called Now We Are.

Set across the May Bank Holiday weekend beginning at 2pm each day two stages will present everything from twee indie pop to rock 'n'roll mayhem.

Extra special headliners will be joined by the best bands from across the West Midlands and the UK.

Some of the those in the line-up include Allo' Darlin, Johnny Foreigner, Bad For Lazarus, Cosines, Eat Y'Self Pretty, Kid Canaveral, Shatter Effect and Darren Hayman. Venue spokesman David Wright said: "The Now We Are Weekender is the latest event in the UK to celebrate all that is brilliant in indie-pop 'n' roll thrills, spills and bellyaches.

"Organised by Funny Looking Cat (who've had past fingers in such pies as Indietracks and The Little Hellfire Club) this debut mini-festival will be a fast-paced musical mash-up for all the family."

"Late night DJs from the best the UK indie club circuit can provide will cater for those determined to burn the midnight oil while the extremely useful Bank Holiday weekend will mean there's no unpleasant back to work exhaustion on Monday morning."
