King of grime Wiley is planning a heatwave at Birmingham after swapping the sweltering temperatures of Ayia Napa for the city's Gatecrasher.

Fresh off stage after performing at the Wireless festival last month and Fire On The Beach in Ayia Napa a few weeks ago, the underground pioneer will hit the Second City's popular club this weekend.

A member of three generations of UK groups – Pay As U Go Cartel, Roll Deep Crew and Boy Better Know – the star has helped nurture the grime scene's biggest stars including Dizzee Rascal, Skepta, Chipmunk and Tinchy Stryder. However, despite playing such a huge part in modern UK music, both mainstream and underground, he's always been one step away from genuine stardom.

His stroke of crossover genius, 2008's Wearing My Rolex just missed out on the number one spot but the Grime king is now back with a new record contract and lots of new tracks. He has released his eighth studio album Evolve or Be Extinct and dropped a new mixtape, It's All Fun And Games Till.Vol. 1, after putting out two records the year before.

But in a recent interview, the rapper confessed he does not crave mainstream success.

He said: "I don't crave it, but I just have to do it because I have the ability to. I used to crave and chase it and that's where I went wrong. You're meant to relax and just do it."

Wiley will peform live at Gatecrasher Birmingham tomorrow night. The venue in Broad Street opens from 10pm.

Tickets are £10. Visit www.gatecrasher.com.
