Grand Ambition Christmas Cabaret
Newhampton Arts Centre, Wolverhampton
Review by Alison Norton
There was a liberal sprinkle of fairy dust and Christmas sparkle over the Newhampton Arts Centre last night, when the Wolverhampton Grand Theatre Glee Choir, who call themselves Grand Ambition, presented their Christmas cabaret for parents and friends.
The group who meet just once a week to rehearse, were formed a year and a half ago by Education Officer for the Grand, Louise Bent, and have appeared in professional shows at the theatre, including Beyond the Barricade and the annual pantomime.
The evening got off to a rousing start with We Need a Little Christmas performed by the choir and then a whole host of festive classics from all age groups and abilities followed.
Nat King Cole look and sound-alike, Joash Msundi delighted the audience with a soulful rendition of Merry Christmas to You, while Eloise Cashmore, Lucia Greenwood and Rebecca Luter displayed tight harmonies in their performance of Wham's Last Christmas.
The timeless love song It May be Winter Outside was given the full Glee treatment by Natalie Bosworth, Emily Rabone and Charlotte Wood, and Ben Evans and Tilly Thompson gave a confident, comical performance of Baby Its Cold Outside.
There were excellent guitar solos by Phil Mann and Ben Croydon and the whole evening was rounded off by O Holy Night with an outstanding solo and the whole choir bringing a tear to the eye.
Wonderful Christmas entertainment which even Scrooge would approve of.
