Messiah, City of Wolverhampton Choir

St John's-in-the-Square,

Review by Jerald Smith

Last December the City Choir's attempt to stage Messiah was cancelled because of heavy snow.

Determined not to let three months' work be was-ted the choir rescheduled the work for this season, and Saturday's audience in Wolverhampton was delighted that they did.

The essence of this 1742 Handel masterpiece is quite simple. It's meant as a reflection on the Messiah's life and death.

Fortunately, all the performers sang with superb clarity of diction, beautifully pure tones and some vivid tonal colouring.
