Breakin' Convention runs at Birmingham Hippodrome Monday 14 and Tuesday 15 May 2012. Performance times: Foyer events from 5.30pm, show begins 7.30pm. Tickets: £9.50 (plus 50p transaction fee), £15 on the door (plus 5% transaction fee).
Now in its ninth year, this hugely popular Sadler's Wells production is hosted and curated by eminent UK hip hop theatre artist Jonzi D, pictured.
Some 329 companies and 2,892 dancers have performed at Breakin' Convention over the years, and the most exciting part is that you could be assuming a starring role in 2012!
Organisers are looking for companies who strive to break the conventions of Hip Hop dance theatre; whether you are a group of b-boys who break in your spare bedroom or a well established crew with your own rehearsal studio.
You don't need to be a huge company with professional experience; they are simply looking for talented crews who have something to say, who are using hip-hop and funk styles in an exciting way and who, most importantly, are able to entertain and excite an audience of up to 1,800 people on the Birmingham Hippodrome main stage.

The show proves to be a fantastic way of engaging people young and old, from all walks of life in an immersive and interactive performance for the whole family."
There will be a number of pre-show events from 5.30pm on the day of the performance, where freestyle sessions with live DJ demos explode into the foyers and workshops from top international artists take place across the building.
Breakin' Convention is part of International Dance Festival Birmingham 2012. Founded in 2008 the Festival is co-produced by Birmingham Hippodrome and DanceXchange and brings a spectacular range of international dance company and performances to venues and outdoor sites across the region.
