A businessman and councillor has turned his enterprising talents to the entertainment industry.

Lifelong Shadows fan Councillor Chris Towe has set up a new venture backing the local tribute band Into the Shadows.

After years touring social clubs and pubs across the region the group was recently signed up by Chris Towe Promotions, set up by Walsall Council's cabinet member for finance.

"I have always been a big Shadows fan," he said. "I played in bands in the 1960s and I have always had a passion for singing although I make my living as a businessman.

"I first came cross the group three years ago when they were looking for promotion help.

"Then we got together a few months ago with a view for me to try and lift the band's profile. They have been playing on the pubs and clubs circuit, but we feel it's time to try some concert venues and to develop their potential as an act rather than as a group of musicians."

Into the Shadows drummer Colin Evans, aged 62, lives in Aldridge. He successfully auditioned for the band five years ago.

The other members are vocalist and rhythm guitarist John Haden, lead guitarist Geoff Broadbent and bass player Mark Greenley.

"We play the music of The Shadows and Cliff Richard which is still very popular," he said.

"Their music is appreciated by a lot of people out there. We are not look-a-likes as it's all about the sound for us. We use the same manufacturers and gear that the band uses to recreate the distinctive sound."

The band will next perform at The Collingwood Centre, Collingwood Drive, Pheasey on October 22 followed by Forest Arts Centre, Hawbush Road, Leamore on November 4.

Tickets cost £5 and are available from the venues on 0121 3601484 or 01922 654555.
