Concert review: Pete Doherty at Wolverhampton Wulfrun Hall
His battles with drugs and alcohol may have earned him more newspaper inches than his songs in recent years.

Pete Doherty
Wulfrun Hall, Wolverhampton
His battles with drugs and alcohol may have earned him more newspaper inches than his songs in recent years.
But indie rock singer Peter Doherty let his music do the talking when he took to the stage at Wolverhampton's Wulfrun Hall.
Appearing in his iconic trilby hat, white shirt and tweed-style jacket Doherty – who now calls himself Peter rather than Pete – was welcomed by screaming fans.
The Wulfrun Hall was packed for the controversial singer's return to the city and he didn't disappoint his die-hard fans.
He performed a number of Babyshambles hits, beginning his set with In Love With A Feeling. Hoards of young female fans sang along with the biggest reaction of the crowd coming to the hit song Don't Look Back Into The Sun, made famous by Doherty's previous band The Libertines.
At one point the star – who used to date supermodel Kate Moss – was cheered as he took a hefty drink of beer on stage and he earned loud cheers from fans when he threw his trilby into the crowd.
Doherty shared few sentences with his fans but remarked that he was lucky to have made it after running late for the gig.
Sadly, although the crowd enjoyed the performance the quality of the sound was lacking and at times it was difficult to make out Doherty's lyrics.
