Death By Fatal Murder

Grand Theatre, Wolverhampton

An all-star cast appear this week at the Grand in the second performance in the summer play season by Ian Dickens Productions.

Death by Fatal Murder, part of the Inspector Pratt trilogy, finds the bumbling inspector back at Bagshot House with a new owner, a dead body and different suspects.

Leslie Grantham has a somewhat limited opportunity to portray his character, the Italian gigolo Enzo Garibaldi, but does so convincingly.

Richard Gibson, better known as Herr Flick from 'Allo 'Allo, is mildly amusing as the upper-class twit Stiffy Allwright.

The characterisation of Inspector Pratt, played by David Callister, is perhaps a little too ridiculous for words but the audience clearly enjoyed the slapstick. Corpsing on stage along with Christopher Elderwood as Constable Thompkins got the biggest laugh of the evening.

Katy Manning, most famous for playing Doctor Who's assistant Jo Grant in the 1970s, as Welsh clairvoyant Blodwyn Morgan gave the performance of the night.

It's silly fun, easy to watch to begin with, but becomes drawn out towards the end.

Runs until Saturday.
