  • John and Furnish had a son, Zachary Jackson Levon Furnish-John, who was born on December 25 last year, via a surrogate, weighing 7 pounds and 15 ounces. Ingrid Sischy and Lady Gaga were named grandparents.
  • Sir Elton annually opens a shop, called Elton’s Closet, in which he sells items of second hand clothing. This year’s sale is likely to feature 10,000 items, which will raise around $400,000.
  • Sir Elton become chairman and director of Watford FC in 1976, investing large sums of money as the club rose three divisions into the First Division, where they finished runners-up and also reached the FA Cup.

  • Elton – then Reginald Dwight – became a weekend pianist at a nearby pub, the Northwood Hills Hotel, at the age of 15, playing Thursday to Sunday nights for £35 a week and tips.
  • The singer songwriter has enjoyed more than 50 top 40 hits, including seven consecutive number one US albums. He has won six Grammies, an Oscar, a Golden Globe Award and a Tony Award.
