A Black Country rock supergroup featuring a host of Midland music icons has announced its first full public concert which will be staged in Wolverhampton.

Black Country Communion will play at Wolverhampton Civic Hall this Christmas, as well as a second gig at London's 02 arena.

The band includes Cannock-born Glenn Hughes, of Deep Purple and Black Sabbath, Dudley-born Jason Bonham, son of Led Zeppelin drummer John, along with American guitar virtuoso Joe Bonamassa and former Dream Theatre keyboard player Derek Sherinian.

The concert will be only the second time Black County Communion has performed in the UK after launching themselves with a behind-closed-doors gig in the summer.

Organisers say the 3,000 tickets are likely to sell out in record time for the Wolverhampton gig on December 29, and the show at London's O2 Shepherd's Bush Empire the following night.

The band's debut album, Black Country, beat competition from the Kings of Leon and Manic Street Preachers to take top spot on the Amazon pre-sale chart before charting at number 13.

Wolves fan Glenn Hughes, speaking of the band's first public show taking place in the Black Country, said: "We feel it's absolutely appropriate to play our first full show on the planet in mine and Jason's heartland. This is where it all started for us."

Planet Rock Radio will launch a four-day ticket pre-sale from November 15. Tickets are on general sale from 9am on November 19 through the National 24-hour Box Office on 0871 2301101, or www.seetickets.com
