X Factor's Katie Waissel gets another lifeline
"You know what, sod it." X Factor bunny boiler Katie Waissel unwittingly summed up the mood of the nation with this statement last night as she slumped to the floor and screeched out the final few bars of her save-me song.
"You know what, sod it." X Factor bunny boiler Katie Waissel unwittingly summed up the mood of the nation with this statement last night as she slumped to the floor and screeched out the final few bars of her save-me song.
Despite fluffing her lines and looking like a nervous wreck, the drama queen once again made it through — at the price of our very own Treyc Cohen and the patience of millions of fed-up viewers.
Simon voted for Katie, saying "I'm going to base this on who, as a viewer, I would like to see next week."
Well Mr Cowell, we don't want to see this crazed, fame-hungry warbler again. Her sing-off song may have been called Please Don't Give Up On Me but that's exactly what we have done.
Has the fact that she has been in the bottom two almost every week passed by the seemingly-oblivious judges?
What more do we have to do to show Simon and Co we just don't like her?
And the fact that she was saved over Walsall music student Treyc just adds insult to injury.
OK, Treyc was never going to win the contest
But at least she could sing and conducted herself with dignity, which is more than can be said for tantrum-throwing, headline-stealing Katie.
Katie deserved to be in the bottom two following her bizarre version of No Doubt's Don't Speak — a song title she should adhere to from now on.
Cowell himself said her performance "fell apart in the middle".
And Dannii said she had sung better previously.
But Treyc deserved a break this week following her decent performance of the Aerosmith's cheese-fest Don't Want to Miss a Thing.
Today, the 26-year-old said she was planning to stay in London to follow her dreams of becoming a singer.
"It's going to be such a challenge," the University of Wolverhampton student said. "But I want to sing and make myself better and make myself successful.
"I've learned a lot about myself in the X Factor and I just wanted to continue to push myself and get out there."
Treyc also said she did not blame Cheryl Cole for refusing to vote last night, with the deciding vote going to Louis Walsh.
"If I was in Cheryl's position I could not have chosen between two acts," she said
"Everything happens for a reason.
"It was a fantastic experience I have loved every single minute of it. Katie is a good girl, we are all close in our category."
The person who should have been standing alongside Katie last night was Mary, who crashed and Byrned on Saturday with a shambolic version of Faith Hill's There You'll Be.
Dudley's finest Wagner Carrilho, however, once again beat the boo-boys thanks to his ever-so-slightly over-the-top Elvis medley dressed in a glitzy jumpsuit and joined by Vegas showgirls.
Wolverhampton lad Liam Payne and his One Direction bandmates also sailed through with their take on the Kim Wilde track Kids in America.
