US band Yeah Yeah Yeahs will be bringing their acclaimed indie rock to Birmingham when they play the O2 Academy on December 9.

The New Yorkers' third album It's Blitz is likely to feature high up on the albums of the year lists, having earned critical plaudits on its release.

The singles Zero and Heads Will Roll are also among the stand-out tracks of 2009.

The Birmingham date has sold out but tickets for other nights on the tour are still available.

Consisting of singer Karen O, drummer Brian Chase and guitarist Nick Zinner, Yeah Yeah Yeahs first came to attention with the release of 2002 single Bang from their self-titled EP.

It drew favourable comparisons with female fronted bands of the past including Blondie and Siouxsie and the Banshees.

The 2003 album Fever To Tell included the acclaimed singles Maps and Y Control, while 2006 long player Show Your Bones cemented their reputation, with hits including Turn Into.

The latest album is more synthesiser-based than previous offerings, leading the US magazine Spin magazine to call it "the alternative pop album of the decade".

Meanwhile, Karen O has released the soundtrack album to the forthcoming film version of children's classic Where the Wild Things Are.

Backed by The Kids, the songs feature in Adaptation director Spike Jonze's reimagining of the story about a young boy who visits a magical island of giant beasts.
