Illness has forced Morrissey to cancel his concert at Birmingham Symphony Hall tonight.

The former frontman of The Smiths also cancelled an appearance on TV show Later With Jools Holland last night and at London's Royal Albert Hall on Monday.

A statement on the 49-year-old singer's website said: "Morrissey is on continued doctor's orders to rest, to ensure a complete recuperation.

"Organisers would like to apologise to fans for the disappointment and are working to reschedule this show and the London Royal Albert Hall show, so advise ticket holders to hang on to their tickets."

It has not been revealed what he is suffering from.

The singer cancelled 11 gigs while on his 18 month global Greatest Hits tour in 2007/08 because of throat problems.
