OrtegaCannock rock group Ortega are set to play a charity gig at Birmingham Academy 2 in aid of Leukaemia Research.

The seven-piece band, who release their debut album, Conversations, this month will appear at the venue on July 30, as part of their 'Find A Cure' Tour.

Bass player Craig Bunting explains: "The Find a Cure Tour was established to raise money for Leukaemia Research.

"This is effectively the first gig - I only called it tour because it rhymed with Cure! But next year it's expanding to other Carling Academy Venues in various destinations such as Brixton and Manchester."

The band, which plays a mix of driving guitars and synths, has been building up a solid fan base in the Midlands as well as supporting acts including Men Woman and Children, Dopamine and The Blackout.

Conversations, released on May 26, has already drawn rave reviews in the rock press, with Rock Sound magazine saying "Ortega could well be the UK's answer to Fall Out Boy. Or maybe more!"

Ortega are also playing Birmingham Barfly on June 22 and Wolverhampton Little Civic on July 13.

Tickets for the Birmingham Academy 2 gig are available from www.birmingham-academy.co.uk and www.ticketmaster.co.uk
