We are winning battle of the bulge - WATCH Wolverhampton mass exercise class
More than 400 people came together to pump, balance and attack their body in free fitness sessions.
The workshops were held at the weekend to highlight Wolverhampton City Council's new-look leisure programme.
Young and old were put through their paces at Aldersley Leisure Village in an event marking the launch of WV Active – the new name for the city's leisure centres. The main attraction was a chance to try one of the classes provided by Les Mills – a leading brand in group fitness which is working with the local authority to reduce the city's high obesity figures.
The workouts ranged from bodybalance, including yoga, Tai Chi and Pilates, through to bodypump – focusing on low weights with high repetition movements – to bodyattack – aerobic movements coupled with strength and stabilisation exercises.
Wolverhampton's mayor Councillor Mike Heap got into the mood by donning a headband, along with the chain of office, and said: "I think this is great for the city and have been impressed by the number of people who turned up to take part."
