Visitors to enjoy carols in the trenches at military museum
Visitors will be able to enjoy singing carols in the trenches at a military museum next month.
Staffordshire Regiment Museum will be hosting a special re-enactment of the Christmas Truce from 1914.
On Christmas Eve that year along sections of the Western Front of France and Belgium, British and German troops decided to lay down their arms to celebrate Christmas with a brief period of peace.
Soldiers left their trenches and met in no man's land, exchanging cigarettes, food and family photographs. Games of football were also played.
On December 13, the Staffordshire Regiment Museum in Whittington is inviting the public to its Carols in the Trenches event from 7-8.30pm.
Visitors will be invited to join museum volunteers in period uniform down in the trenches as they read extracts of soldier's letters home to their families and sing carols.
Tickets are priced between £3 and £9. Pre-booking is essential by calling 01543 434394.
